Who are we? We are a varied group of runners who enjoy running on roads, trails and fells over a wide variety of distances. With around 80 members and founded some seventeen years ago, we have a good mix of male and female, young and less young, and a broad range of abilities. Some of our members are founder members, but we have new runners joining us all the time. We like to think we are friendly and sociable, welcoming new runners not just to running but to our social side too. We try to generate a relaxed yet supportive running environment where you can train at your own chosen level. Nevertheless we are keen on running and competitive, taking part in events from 5 mile road races, through fell racing and up to and including marathons and ultra events. We wear our orange and black vests with pride!
Where and when do we meet? Every Monday and Wednesday at 7pm in the Clubhouse foyer at Shaw Lane Sports Club, Shaw Lane, off Racecommon Road, Barnsley S70 6HZ. Directions can be obtained from this map Our multi-sport club houses a full range of facilities including showers, changing rooms, car parking and a bar. What training do we do? Usually split down into 2 or 3 groups running for an hour or so, from 5 to 8 miles. Wednesdays in winter are specific training sessions for speed work and hill work, a structured programme which we all do as one group. Interested in joining us? New members are always welcome at the club. Why not come along on a month's trial basis? Either meet us at the club on a training night, or get in touch through the contacts page. If you eventually join us the £25 fee includes social membership at Shaw Lane and your affiliation to England Athletics.
